Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States of America. Jefferson was born April 13, 1743. Jefferson grew up on a tobacco plantation in Shadweell, Virginia. As a child Jefferson worked on his parents plantation.

Jefferson attended the college of William and Mary. Jefferson entered college at the age of seventeen. While Jefferson attended William and Mary he studied law with Judge George Wythe. Jefferson was admitted to the bar exam at age twenty-four.

Jefferson married the former Martha Waylas Skeloton. They were married January 1, 1772. Jefferson had six kids with Martha. Jefferson had five girls and one boy. Out of Jeffersons six kids only two of his daughters lived to maturity. Only one daughter lived to be twenty-five years of age.

Jefferson retirement from everything was because of tragedy. On September 6, 1782 he noted in his journal "My dear wife died this day at 11:45 a.m." Jefferson stayed in total isolation for a few months after that. After isolation Jefferson returned to politics.

Jefferson was elected governor of Virginia durring the American Revolution. He was in office from 1779-1780. While Jefferson was president he fled to escape capture from British troops. Because Jefferson always got critisized as governor he resigned.
